# QR-bill in Switzerland and Liechtenstein

> Add Swiss QR-bills to invoices for locations in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, learn how customers pay them and how to record their payments, and fix invoices issued without a QR-bill

QR-bill is the standard payment slip in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. If your location is in one of these two countries, Spacebring can add a QR-bill to the bottom of its invoice PDFs. Customers scan its QR code in their banking app to pay the invoice straight to your bank account.

## Set up QR-bill

1. Click **(...)** next to the location name on the left-side panel > **Location settings** > **Billing** > **Currencies**.
2. Make sure the location **Currency** is CHF or EUR. A QR-bill appears only on invoices in these currencies.
   * If it isn't, add CHF or EUR as an [alternative currency](/docs/billing/currencies) and apply it to your customers.
3. Go to **General** > **Information** and set **Language** to Deutsch, English, Français, or Italiano.
   * The QR-bill is printed in this language. Other languages, including British English, get no QR-bill.
4. Open the **Billing details** tab and fill in **Legal business name**. The QR-bill shows it as the payee.
5. In **Address**, set **Country** to Switzerland or Liechtenstein. The **QR-bill** section then appears on this tab.
6. Fill in **Address line 1**, **City**, and **Postal code**.
   * Keep **Address line 2** to 16 characters or fewer. The QR-bill uses it as the building number.
7. In **QR-bill** > **Account**, enter your Swiss or Liechtenstein IBAN or QR-IBAN. It starts with CH or LI.

8. Set **Reference**, which appears once the **Account** is valid. It's the same on every QR-bill.
   * With a QR-IBAN, enter your 27-digit QR reference. It's required.
   * With a regular IBAN, enter a Creditor Reference that starts with RF, or leave the field empty.

## How QR-bill works

* Spacebring adds a QR-bill to every invoice and proforma invoice issued after setup. Receipt PDFs and credit notes don't have one.
  * Invoices issued before setup don't get a QR-bill, because an invoice keeps the billing details it was issued with.
* The QR-bill sits at the bottom of the invoice PDF, below a dashed cut line. It has a receipt on the left and a payment part with the QR code on the right.
* **Account / Payable to** shows the location's account, legal business name, and address.
* **Reference**, **Currency**, and **Amount** show the reference from the location's billing details, the invoice currency, and the amount due.
* **Payable by** shows the customer's legal name and address from their billing details. If the customer has no legal name or country there, the field is left blank for them to fill in by hand.

## How customers pay a QR-bill

1. The customer pays the QR-bill in one of two ways:
   * In their banking app or online banking, they scan the QR code on the invoice PDF. The app fills in the account, amount, and reference.
   * At their bank branch, they hand over the printed QR-bill.
2. They check the payee and the amount, and confirm the payment. The money goes straight to your bank account.
3. Spacebring doesn't see this payment, so the invoice stays **Unpaid**. Until it's recorded, the customer may still get payment reminders for the invoice.
4. When the money arrives, an administrator [records the payment](/docs/billing/invoices/payments#create-invoice-payments) with the **External** method. They can also add an internal note that the invoice was paid with the QR-bill.

## Troubleshoot QR-bill

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="An invoice has no QR-bill">
    Check that:

    * The invoice was issued after you set up QR-bill. An invoice keeps the billing details it was issued with.
    * The invoice is in CHF or EUR, and the location language and country match the [setup steps](#set-up-qr-bill).
    * The location's **Billing details** tab has a **Legal business name** and a valid IBAN or QR-IBAN in **Account**.

    To add a QR-bill to an unpaid invoice issued before the fix, [void it](/docs/billing/invoices/edit#edit-a-finalized-invoice) and issue a new one.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Swiss QR code generation error">
    Spacebring sends this notification when it can't create the QR-bill for an invoice. The invoice PDF then has no QR-bill. Administrators with access to **Location settings** get the notification when their **Integrations** [notifications](/docs/account/notifications) are on.

    The notification names the cause:

    * If it says "Customer address line 2 is too long", the customer's **Address line 2** has more than 16 characters. Shorten it in the customer's [billing details](/docs/customer-management/billing-details).
    * If it says "unexpected error", check that the location's billing details follow the [setup steps](#set-up-qr-bill). Also check that the customer's billing address has **Address line 1**, **City**, and **Postal code** filled in.

    Then [void the invoice](/docs/billing/invoices/edit#edit-a-finalized-invoice) and issue a new one, so the new invoice picks up the corrected details.
