# Applications for memberships

> Set up membership sign-up requests to collect membership applications and verify customers

With sign-up requests, users can apply for memberships, and you can vet them before creating a subscription.

Membership sign-up requests are ideal for:

* Niche or curated spaces that require personal or professional verification
* Verification-based memberships that require ID uploads or supporting documents
* Discounted memberships for students, nonprofits, or other groups that need eligibility confirmation.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Membership sign-up requests are available only on [specific plans](https://www.spacebring.com/pricing).

> [!TIP]
>
> For memberships that don't require verification, [use **Immediate** sign-up type](https://www.spacebring.com/docs/catalog/memberships/immediate-sign-ups.md) instead.

## Configure membership sign-up requests

1. [Create](https://www.spacebring.com/docs/catalog/memberships.md) or [edit](https://www.spacebring.com/docs/catalog/memberships.md#edit-or-delete-a-membership) a membership.
2. Enable **Sign-up**.
3. Select **Request** as the sign-up **Type**.

4. [Enable the **Support** page](https://www.spacebring.com/docs/support/tickets.md) and set it to **Public** visibility so users can see administrators’ replies.

> [!WARNING]
>
> If the **Support** page is disabled, the **Apply** button will be greyed out on memberships. If the **Support** page is not set to **Public** visibility, users can apply for memberships but won’t see responses from administrators or a [support agent](https://www.spacebring.com/docs/ai-agents/handle-support-tickets.md#reply-to-tickets-with-an-agent).

## How users apply for a membership

1. Customers press **Sign up** next to their desired location to view available memberships.

2. Select a membership, set their preferred subscription start date, renewal, quantity, whether they want to sign up as an individual member or as a business, and optionally leave a comment.
3. Press **Apply** to submit their request.

## How administrators manage membership sign-up requests

1. Each membership sign-up request appears as a new ticket in **Support** > **Tickets**.
2. Administrators manage the request through the support ticket:

* Communicate with the applicant
* Request verification documents
* Ask follow-up questions

> [!TIP]
>
> [Set up an agent](https://www.spacebring.com/docs/guides/automate-onboarding-and-follow-ups.md#handle-membership-and-booking-applications) to automatically handle membership applications: ask applicants your questions, request documents, and answer theirs on the ticket. Applicants receive the agent's messages in the member portal, by push, and by email, so they’ll see them even after leaving the portal.

3. After confirming the necessary documents or details, if the user is approved and you want to set them up as a member or for a subscription, click the user's name in the ticket and press **Invite as member**.

4. [Create a subscription](https://www.spacebring.com/docs/billing/subscriptions.md) for the requested membership for the customer`.`
5. If the user requested a company subscription, [create a company](https://www.spacebring.com/docs/customer-management/companies.md) first > [add this user to the company](https://www.spacebring.com/docs/customer-management/companies.md#add-company-members-and-managers) as a manager > create a company subscription.
